Fully Funded A*STAR Graduate Scholarship in Singapore

All eligible and interested international students may now apply for the Singapore A-Star Graduate Scholarship 2025.

You can receive up to four years of funding for your PhD or EngD studies at Singapore’s autonomous universities under the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS).

A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) – FAQs

1. Can I be considered for AGS if I’ve applied for the NSS (PhD)?

Yes. Applicants can indicate in the NSS (PhD) application form if they wish to be considered for the AGS if found suitable.

2. What are the partner autonomous universities for AGS/ACIS?

The AGS and ACIS are tenable at Singapore’s autonomous universities for up to four (4) years. These typically include:

  • National University of Singapore (NUS)
  • Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
  • Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
  • Singapore Management University (SMU) (for some programs)

3. Do I need to apply separately to the university after applying for AGS/ACIS?

Yes. A separate application must be made directly to the intended university. The scholarship is only valid if admission is secured.

4. When should I apply for university admission?

Apply to the university concurrently with your AGS/ACIS scholarship application.

5. Can I apply for AGS if my supervisor is not affiliated with A*STAR?

Yes, but the supervisor must be approved by ASTAR. They must typically be a Principal Investigator or Principal Scientist at an ASTAR Research Institute. The proposed supervisor should check with their university or RI HR for approval processes.

6. Is a Master’s degree required before applying for a PhD under AGS?

No, a Master’s is not required. Applicants can apply directly with a Bachelor’s degree (2nd Class Upper or equivalent).

7. What is the AGS application and interview process like?

  • Submit a full application with:
    • At least 2 referee reports
    • Proposed research area
    • Academic transcripts & documents
  • Shortlisted candidates undergo 2 rounds of interviews, typically with A*STAR management and researchers.

8. How long does the application process take?

Approximately 5 months from the date of complete submission to final outcome notification. Apply early.

9. Can I apply if I have a Second Class Lower degree?

While the minimum requirement is a 2nd Class Upper, A*STAR assesses applications holistically. Relevant research experience and achievements may strengthen your case.

10. Will experience as a Research Officer at A*STAR help my application?

Yes. Research Officers gain valuable mentorship and project exposure, which can significantly strengthen scholarship applications.

11. Can non-Singaporeans apply for AGS/ACIS?

Yes. International students are eligible. If awarded, they must serve a 3-year bond in Singapore-based companies (preferably in BMS, engineering, or computing).
