The MDPI Sustainability Foundation is set to award the 2026 World Sustainability Award to three individuals for their significant contributions to sustainability research, each receiving a monetary prize of 150,000 USD.

The World Sustainability Award (WSA), presented by the MDPI Sustainability Foundation, recognizes senior researchers who have made groundbreaking contributions to sustainability. Applicants must contribute to at least two of the three pillars of sustainability:
- 🌱 Biosphere (Environmental/Ecological Systems)
- 🌍 Society (Social/Cultural Development)
- 💼 Economy (Economic Processes and Innovation)

Nominees are evaluated by an international Selection Committee based on:
- Scientific excellence and originality
- Contribution to at least two sustainability pillars

- Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Influence, leadership, and mentorship in the academic community
