UNESCO / Kingdoms Institute: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia AlUla Fellowships Programme 2026

UNESCO and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) are jointly offering a 24-month fellowship program for 10 fellows in heritage research, conservation, and management. This initiative aims to enhance scientific knowledge, strengthen World Heritage management capacity, especially in emergency preparedness, and provide practical experience through fieldwork in AlUla and on-the-job training within international and national organizations, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia AlUla Fellowships Programme is a fully funded 24-month fellowship jointly run by UNESCO and the Royal Commission for AlUla (Saudi Arabia), focused on Heritage Research, Conservation, and Management.

Which fields qualify?

Culture, heritage management, architecture, archaeology, conservation, museum management, cultural policies, anthropology, art history, creative industries, international relations, social/human sciences, and related fields.

The type:
Fellowship (training + fieldwork + research placement).

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Citizens of invited UNESCO Member & Associate States (see Annex I).
  • Age 25–39.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant fields. A bachelor’s + 2 years’ experience may be accepted.
  • Excellent English; other UNESCO languages (Arabic, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian) an advantage.

How Do They Choose Applicants?
Joint UNESCO–RCU selection based on qualifications, documents, proposal, and interview. Gender balance and cultural diversity prioritized.

Which nations are qualified?
Invited UNESCO Member States and Associate Members (see Annex I of application guide).

Where will the prize be accepted?
Saudi Arabia (AlUla) + UNESCO duty stations (e.g., Paris, Abuja, Cairo, Bangkok) + partner heritage entities worldwide.

How Many Honors?
10 fellows will be selected.
