African Business Education (ABE) Initiative 2026 & SDGs Global Leadership Program in Japan– JFY 2025

The ABE Initiative and the SDGs Global Leadership Program are fully funded opportunities by the Government of Japan and JICA. They provide African youth and officials with the chance to pursue Master’s (and Doctoral, for the SDGs track) degrees at Japanese universities while gaining practical work experience through internships at Japanese enterprises.

When is the deadline for applications?

 📅 Thursday, 9 October 2025 (12:00 local time).

 Which fields qualify?
Fields relevant to industry development, policy formulation, sustainable development, and other areas tied to Africa’s growth and the SDGs. (Exact fields depend on host universities and research areas.)

The type:

 🎓 Master’s Degree (both programs)
🎓 Doctoral Degree (SDGs Global Leadership Program only)
💼 Internship in Japan (ABE Initiative only)

Who is eligible to apply?

  • ABE Initiative: Young African professionals from both public and private sectors.

  • SDGs Global Leadership Program: Young and mid-level government officials only.

  • Applicants must be under 40 years old as of April 1, 2026.

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree and relevant working experience.

How Do They Choose Applicants?
Selection is based on academic merit, career/research plan, leadership potential, alignment with Africa–Japan development goals, and results of the required application documents (including English proficiency where needed).

Which nations are qualified?
🌍 All 54 African countries.

Where will the prize be accepted?
🏫 Japanese universities and enterprises across Japan.

How Many Honors?
Since its inception, over 1,400 participants have joined, with around 3,000 opportunities planned under ABE Initiative 3.0 (2019–2025). The 13th batch will accommodate selected applicants from across Africa.
